| Motorcycle Gear & Neutral Switches Top grade motorcycle neutral switches or gear switches as otherwise known are supplied to OEM specification. The neutral switch is usually mounted the back of the transmission and is electrically closed when the transmission is in neutral. If you experience a dead neutral light or a delay before the neutral light comes on, the switch has probably failed. The starting safety features vary by bike model, but typically you only need to be in neutral or have the clutch lever pulled in to start the bike. Some older bikes require that the sidestand is up as well, but newer bikes can start on the sidestand in neutral. If you can only start in neutral, or you have to have the clutch lever pulled in even if you are in neutral, you almost certainly have a bad switch somewhere.. If you have a Jap bike & cannot find your part on this or one of the following pages, we may have neglected to add it here or have just not yet found the time to update the category. Select your bike model from the Japanese categories to the left of this page. We also have parts for other manufacturers which you will find in the parts by type categories |
