Although better known for their use of small single-cylinder four stroke engines that form part of their comprehensive range of commuter machines, Honda expanded this range still further with the introduction of the
H100-A in February of 1980.
The H100-A was designed to fulfil the role of an economical commuter machine. Features such as CDI ignition, the separate oil injection system for engine lubrication, and the fully-enclosed rear chain combine to make it a simple machine to operate in everyday use, requiring the bare minimum of attention. The 100cc engine gives adequate performance for everyday use in normal traffic conditions, but without the high fuel consumption of more highly tuned two-stroke machines.
Engine efficiency is enhanced by the use of a reed valve induction system and the vibration inherent in a single-cylinder engine is largely cancelled out by the fitting of a single-shaft primary balancer.
The H100-S was introduced in June of 1983 and was sold alongside the H100-A model which continued unchanged until stocks were exhausted in 1983/4. It was a heavily revised version of the H100-A which had lost some of its more practical features such as, the oil tank is positioned behind the right-hand side panel, a lightweight chromed top cover replaces the fully enclosed final drive chain casing, a tachometer is fitted and, somewhat unusually, the CDI ignition is replaced by a contact breaker system. |
