| Motorcycle R-Clips & E-Clips Certain cylindrical parts on an motorcycle, such as hinge pins are held in place with flat, semi-circular steel fasteners called e-clips. Places on an motorcycle where you might find e-clips include the shocks or other parts of the suspension, holding on the ends of shafts and spindles and in the brake assembly etc. The e-clip is a small part that can sometimes pop off and get lost easily. Having a few extra e-clips on hand in your toolbox is a good idea. Also known as retaining clips or hair pins, fix an R-pin or clip type cotter pin into the hole on the end of the fastening device by sliding the main leg (the tine that has no bends) of the pin into the hole. The head of the pin will prevent it from travelling all the way through. The curved body of the pin should firmly grasp the side of the bolt or rod it is securing. The tension of the pin will hold it in place, no bending is required |
