In the cruiser world bigger and baddest is definitely better, and they don’t
come any bigger than the 2004 Kawasaki VN2000. With 2053 cubic centimetres of
fuel injected 52 degree V-Twin producing 103 horses they don’t come much baddest
either - just ask the massive 200mm rear tyre what it feels like to blot up
177Nm of torque if you want to know about bad.
Unlike some other cruisers this machine is meant to be ridden comfortably over
long distances, so the VN2000 comes with a stylish 21 litre fuel tank. A
step-motor-driven instrument console mounted in the tank contains a speedometer,
fuel gauge and warning lamps. A comfortable bucket seat and floorboards add to
riding comfort.
The Kawasaki VN2000 may be the largest displacement V-twin in the world but that
doesn’t mean it’s unwieldy. An ultra-low seat height of 680mm makes it easy for
even the shortest riders to reach the ground with their feet, and the low centre
of gravity makes its 340 kg mass a cinch to wheel around, even at low speed.
With the 2008 VN2000 Classic, Kawasaki’s flagship cruiser receives a makeover
taking its best features and recasting them in a timeless, classic style.
Producing massive amounts of power and torque, the VN2000 Classic is not only
the world’s largest displacement mass production V-Twin – bold gracefully
tapered cylinders accentuated by long pushrod tubes and curvaceously shaped
engine covers mean its power plant is one of the best-looking V-Twin engines in
the industry.
Emissions are even cleaner now thanks to updates that enable the VN2000 Classic
to meet strict Euro-III regulations.
The “stretched” low-and-long chassis is just as impressive in its own way. From
the sculpted contours of the tank and fenders to the deeply chromed details,
every element expresses the high quality, superb comfort and feeling of
trustworthiness customers expect from a flagship machine. A classic-style
cruiser headlamp enhances the timeless lines of the bike while simultaneously
conveying an image distinct from the initial VN2000.
In line with Kawasaki’s long standing “Classic” cruiser philosophy, the latest
incarnation of the 2053cc machine now has a classic chrome headlamp, light bar
and indicators in place of the previous integral multiple beam headlamp unit.
Pumping out over 140 lb-ft of torque at a lowly 3000rpm, the VN2000 Classic
successfully combines hardcore cruiser features with an advanced specification
sheet that includes digital fuel injection, belt drive and liquid cooling at the
top of each cylinder.
